Hydrocyclones

Filtration

Hydrocyclones are filters, also called sand serapators, placed upstream the irrigation systems when the source water is a well, a lake, an open reservoir, needing a filtration because of their heavy charge of sand particles. Implementing a hydrocyclone filter is recommanded to protect drip irrigation systems from clogging due to these sand particles in suspension. Its operating principle utilizes centrifugal force, or descendant turbulent flow, which drops down the heavier particles (sand) into a lower container, and delivers water from an upper outlet to the irrigation system.

Hydrocyclones can be manufactured in plastic, zinc-coated or painted metal, all with the same operating principle. The key factors to be considered in order to choose the most suitable model are: the irrigation system size, the inlet flow rate, the suspended particles per million in water, hence the quantity of sand to be separated.

Generally hydrocyclones are equipped with two manometers and a sand container with quick purge and a screw lid.
